Songhe was also known as the Kuras or Kurasu tribe. It was a tribe of the Atayals, and “Defulan” refers specifically to the Atayals in the Songhe area, meaning plenty of water and fertile soil and a place suitable for people to live. After Taiwan Restoration, because it is usually to see many egrets looking for food at Dajia River. It looks like white cranes flying and dancing from afar. Therefore, this place was renamed “Songhe.”
